Basketball

We are excited to announce our February Athlete of the Month, Caitlin Clark. Clark is a sophomore basketball player at the University of Iowa. Even though Clark is only a Sophomore, she’s already made a huge impact on her team. During her sophomore season in 2021–22, Clark has so far recorded four triple-doubles, a feat previously accomplished in a single season by only seven NCAA Division I women’s players. On January 16 and 20, 2022, she recorded 30-point triple-doubles against  Nebraska and  Minnesota, making her the first D-I player of either sex to score 30 points in consecutive triple-doubles, and also the first Big Ten women’s player with consecutive triple-doubles regardless of scoring total. Clark’s feat of consecutive 30-point triple-doubles had also never been accomplished in the WNBA and had only been accomplished by six NBA players in the 21st century. In addition to this incredible feat, Clark is the only player in the country averaging 25+ points, 6+ assists, and 6+ rebounds, the only Division I student-athlete to record 11, 30-point games this season — the most by an NCAA Division I WBB freshman since 2000, and has earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week 13 times and has earned 22 total weekly honors from the conference. Her 12 Freshman of the Week honors is a Big Ten Record. Needless to say, we are excited to see what she does next!
